THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN TO THE OSCE MADE A STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF THE ADOPTION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION “2021 - INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF PEACE AND CONFIDENCE”

On October 3, 2019, the official representatives of Turkmenistan made a statement on the occasion of the adoption of the UNGA resolution “2021 - International Year of Peace and Confidence” at the regular meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council.

In the statement, it was noted that on September 12, 2019, at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, on the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Resolution “2021 - International Year of Peace and Confidence” was adopted with the co-sponsorship of 73 states.

The basic provisions of the Resolution are in line with the fundamental principles of the United Nations on development of friendly relations between nations based on the principle of equality and commitment to resolve disputes by peaceful means.

The resolution emphasizes that the celebration of the International Year of Peace and Trust is a way to mobilize the international community to strengthen peace and trust between states, in particular, through political dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation.

Thus, supporting the initiative of Turkmenistan, the United Nations Organization calls on the international community to further promote peace and trust in relations between states as a value conducive to sustainable development, peace and security, as well as respect for human rights. Partnership with the UN allows Turkmenistan to realize its neutral status as an important factor in regional stability and security.
