Draft Concept of the presidency of Turkmenistan in the IFSA in 2017 – 2019 is developed

The document defines the main directions of the works including for rational use and management of water resources, environment protection, climate change and improvement of ecological situation in the Central Asian region. All these key aspects include specific measures for practical realization of the Goal of Sustainable Development for 2016 – 2030 adopted in September 2015 during the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. 

As is known special round table session on August 23 of the last year, where representatives of the founders of the Fund, international organizations and competent financial structures took part, was dedicated to the discussion of the Concept of Turkmenistan’s presidency in the IFSA during next three years. 

In the beginning of December 2016, Ashgabat hosted another meeting where representatives of international organizations, national and foreign experts discussed the main directions of cooperation, having studied in details the proposals of Turkmen side for realization of joint programmes aimed at improvement of ecological situation and mechanisms of integrated management and rational use of transboundary water resources, promotion of economical and social development of the Aral Region. 

During the session of the Government of January 20, the Minister of Foreign Affairs presented the Draft Provision on Executive Committee of the International Fund to the Head of the State for review as well as proposed the names of the candidates from our country to be the members of the Executive Committee. 

Having signed the documents, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted special responsibility of our country that face the objective to promote comprehensively the expansion and consolidation of cooperation of the Central Asian countries in all spectrum of environmental issues, activation of close cooperation of the states of the region with largest international organizations, first of all, with the Un and its specialized structures. 

Thus, the activity of Turkmenistan under its presidency in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea is aimed at the counteract against the consequences of the Aral crisis and prevention of the degradation of ecosystems of the Aral region, preservation of biodiversity and environment of the Central Asia and sustainable use of natural resources, promotion of economic and social development of the region.
