The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN made a speech at the General Debate of the 81st session of the General Assembly
On 28 September 2026, during the general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, held as part of High-Level Week, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Vepa Hajiyev addressed the Assembly.
At the start of his speech, V. Hajiyev conveyed words of greeting and wishes for peace and prosperity to the peoples of the world from the President of Turkmenistan, His Excellency Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The Permanent Representative explained in detail Turkmenistan's position and initiatives within the framework of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
It was noted that Turkmenistan’s approach is based on a clear principle: peace through dialogue, trust and practical cooperation.
“Turkmenistan firmly believes that the United Nations must continue to serve as the universal and legitimate foundation of international cooperation and as the principal mechanism for reconciling interests and developing solutions in the areas of peace, security and sustainable development,” emphasised V. Hajiyev.
Guided by the principles of permanent neutrality and preventive diplomacy, Turkmenistan has put forward initiatives such as the UN Decade of Dialogue and Preventive Diplomacy, the International Code for the Peaceful Use of Artificial Intelligence in International Relations and Diplomacy, and the Ashgabat Climate Dialogue.
Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to issues of sustainable transport and transport connectivity, international law, and climate change resilience.
Turkmenistan's approach to the humanitarian dimension of international cooperation was highlighted during the speech. The country will continue to implement the 'Women, Peace and Security' agenda by developing the Central Asian Women’s Dialogue, including through expanded cooperation with the UN Peacebuilding Commission and UN Women.
Turkmenistan also intends to promote greater practical involvement of young people in international and regional peace initiatives in line with the 'Youth, Peace and Security' agenda.
