Prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization discussed
On 12 March 2026, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova and the Regional Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for Europe and Central Asia Peter Van Rooij.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Turkmen side congratulated Peter Van Rooij on his appointment and expressed confidence that his professional experience would contribute to further strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization.
The interlocutors noted the progressive development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ILO within the framework of the country’s collaboration with the United Nations system, emphasizing that the interaction is of a systemic nature and is implemented through joint roadmaps and projects.
During the discussion, issues related to expanding the institutional presence of UN agencies in Turkmenistan were also considered, as well as the implementation of joint projects aimed at promoting the principles of decent work and developing social dialogue.
The importance of implementing the Roadmap for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ILO for 2026 was also noted.
In the context of Turkmenistan’s participation in the activities of the ILO, it was noted that the country regularly submits reports on the organization’s conventions and takes part in the work of the International Labour Conference, the next session of which will take place in Geneva in June of this year.
At the end of the meeting, the sides confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening the partnership between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization.
