Working meetings of representatives of the Caspian littoral states were held in Ashgabat

From October 13 to 17, 2025, a series of meetings of experts of the Caspian littoral states was held in Ashgabat to discuss the draft five-sided documents, in particular, the draft Agreement between the Governments of the Caspian Littoral States on Cooperation in Marine Scientific Research in the Caspian Sea and the draft Protocol on Cooperation in Combating Illegal Fishing of Aquatic Biological Resources (poaching) in the Caspian Sea to the Agreement on Security Cooperation in the Caspian Sea of ​​November 18, 2010.

Representatives of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the Institute of the Caspian Sea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of relevant ministries and agencies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Russian Federation, participated in the meetings.

The participants emphasized the progress in finalizing the drafts and agreed to continue their joint work.

It is important to note that Turkmenistan attaches special attention to strengthening cooperation in the Caspian region, as well as protecting and maintaining its unique biodiversity. In 2025–2026, Turkmenistan chairs the Commission on the Conservation, Rational Use of Aquatic Biological Resources of the Caspian Sea and Management of their Joint Stock.

In the Priority Positions of Turkmenistan at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, it was clearly stated that the country intends to actively work on the advancement of the Caspian Environmental Initiative.

Foreign experts expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for hosting the talks and for the hospitality.
