Participation of the delegation of Turkmenistan in the 13th Meeting of ECO Ministers of Transport

On June 2, 2025, in Tehran, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakyev took part in the 13th Meeting of Transport Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The event was attended by the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran Farzaneh Sadegh, the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Makhkamov Ilkhom Rustamovich, the Minister of Communications of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Abdul Alim Khan, the Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto, the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Asad Majeed Khan.

The meeting focused on the development of an efficient and sustainable transport system in the ECO region, improving logistics links between East and West, expanding multimodal routes, and introducing digital solutions in the transport industry.

The participants considered the prospects for modernizing international transport corridors, automating border procedures, increasing the capacity of logistics hubs, and introducing innovative technologies. The importance of cooperation within the ECO framework as a key tool for strengthening regional connectivity and international transit was emphasized.

Turkmenistan confirmed its commitment to developing mutually beneficial partnership in the transport sector, emphasizing its strategic role as a transit country between Europe and Asia.

A number of bilateral meetings were held within the framework of the meeting. Following the meeting with the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the parties discussed the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, expansion of cargo transportation volumes, modernization of border points and prospects for new joint routes.

The issues of strengthening partnership in the field of transport, development of new logistics directions and digitalization of transportation were discussed with the Minister of Communications of Pakistan.

During the talks with IRU Secretary General, issues of training professional drivers and logistics managers, as well as strengthening cooperation in the automotive sector, were discussed.

A meeting was also held with ECO Secretary General, during which key areas of development of the transport sector, enhancing regional connectivity and promoting international transit were discussed. In addition, the issue of preparation for the 3rd Global Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC), scheduled for August 3-5, 2025 in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, was touched upon. Within the framework of this event, an extended ECO meeting is also expected to be held.
