NEW AMBASSADOR OF NORWAY ACCREDITED IN TURKMENISTAN

On December 8, 2022, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan G.Mammedova received credentials from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Turkmenistan (with residence in Oslo) John Mikal Kvistad.

On behalf of the head of state, the Speaker of the National Parliament congratulated the Norwegian diplomat on his appointment to a responsible position, wishing him success in strengthening bilateral ties.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects for the development of Turkmen-Norwegian relations.

Being acquainted with the activities of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, information was provided on its interaction with the parliaments of foreign countries. In this regard, it was proposed to establish cooperation between the parliaments of the two states.

In the first half of the day, the Ambassador of Norway John Mikal Kvistad met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev, during which copies of his credentials were presented.

At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on promising areas of bilateral relations and interaction within the framework of international organizations.

The diplomats also considered international and regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan.

Regarding cooperation within the framework of «the European Union-Central Asia» format, the importance of consolidating efforts with the EU on regional security was noted.

The attention was also paid to the development of transport and transit routes, whereas prospects for cooperation in the field of energy were considered.
